The Belly Dancer Zehara Nachash (Bright Serpent), widely recognized as "Boston's Resident Snake Charmer," captivated audiences with her mesmerizing performances starting in 2005. Possessing an enigmatic personality and an unwavering passion for dance, Zehara became a highly sought-after performing artist. Her expertise spanned Egyptian Raqs Sharki and Turkish belly dance, showcasing her versatility. In addition to her mastery of belly dance, Zehara delved into other dance forms, including West African and Russian Romany styles, the latter deeply influenced by her Russian heritage, particularly her grandmother's legacy. Zehara generously shared her knowledge by teaching belly dance classes throughout New England. She also founded two remarkable student troupes, "Daughters of Eden" and "Alankara," which graced various public and private events in and around New England. Zehara set herself apart by elevating the art of belly dance through sold-out theatrical productions such as "ANIMUS: A Shamanic Journey Through Dance," "Elementals," "Dancing the Wheel," "The Jane Doe Benefit," and her famous Boston sideshow, "Kalliopes Karavan." She also held a monthly Belly Dance showcase with her friend and fellow Belly Dance artist, the late Sabrina Tarulli, called "Dancers Oasis," featuring performances from dancers across New England. In 2012, she introduced "PRIMAL FUSION WORLD DANCE," a unique class blending live drumming, West African and Middle Eastern dance, and ecstatic movements to create a spiritual dance experience. As an extension of PRIMAL, she formed the West African/Middle Eastern dance troupe known as "Huntress," featuring several talented dancers from the Boston area.
The Snake Charmer After dreaming of a White Serpent in late 2005, Zehara felt called to work with snakes. Over the past 20 years, she has tirelessly performed, taught, and advocated for snakes, challenging spiritual and public stigmas. Guided by her teachers Bahijha of the Dancing Serpents and Serpentessa of New York, Zehara continues to enchant audiences as a snake charmer. She and her serpentine partners have appeared in numerous print and magazine ads, music videos, and online commercials. Notable appearances include Tamara Rodriguez's "Italian-O" video and an Absolut Vodka Apple Orient campaign. They even opened for the Counting Crows at a House of Blues benefit in Boston. Zehara's unique blend of dance and snake handling transcends traditional snake charming, creating a spiritual connection between humans and serpents. Her performances, characterized by graceful movements and a mystical serpentine dance, leave audiences in awe of her bond with her snakes, making each show unforgettable.
Rooted in the ancient arts of Belly Dance and West African dance, Zehara draws inspiration from the natural world, occult arts, witchcraft, and archetypal mythology. For her, dance is a sacred ritual and a profound expression of spirituality, which she shares wholeheartedly with her audience.
